Board of Directors 2019-2020

 Western Care Board of Directors

As one of the many returned immigrants from the 90's, I now reside in  Ballinrobe, having married a Mayo Man.

My background is in midwifery and I work in Mayo University Hospital as a midwife educator.  There I get to witness the miracle and reality of life with the new babies and new parents.

My family have been customers of Western Care for over 18 years for the support of our princess Aoife.  She has four loyal servants who tend to her every need.  Over the years I have dipped in and out of other parent support groups when time has allowed.
I was nominated to the Board of Directors in May 2016 and look forward to supporting the Board and Western Care  in providing the best standards for all their service users and families.
    Frances Burke

Having worked in various locations I retired in June 2013.  My last position was that of Administrator in Aras Attracta, Swinford.
I have always admired the work of the Western Care Association and hope that as a member of the Board I can assist in some small way in improving services for persons with an intellectual disability in the Mayo area.  I am also involved in a number of voluntary organisations in Westport.

Living in Westport I became a member on the Board of Western Care in   2012.
I have been using Western Care services for many years in   particular   the Autism section.
With all the services and supports that we have used over the past number of years it was my belief that I should in turn give back some of the support through my own knowledge in the work place.
I am currently employed in Allergan Pharmaceuticals Ireland as the Senior Human  Resources Manager.

We have used the services of Western Care Association since 1992 and when I was nominated to be a parents representative on the Board I was delighted to accept in the recognition of the wonderful support we received in the last 24 years.
I was involved with many voluntary organisations in Westport over the years my children were growing up and taking part in local activities.
I will work with my fellow Directors and Executive Director to continue to develop and improve services for families with a member with special needs.

Due to personal circumstances I took early retirement in January 2005.
In retirement I committed to getting involved in voluntary activities having experienced the great work undertaken by both the Hospice movement and the Resource Centre at the Salesian College in Celbridge.
I was Finance Director of the Acre Project in Celbridge for 8 years resulting in a range of facilities being developed on a green field site for youth on the margin, people with special needs and the community of Celbridge.
