Cochrane Collaboration
The Cochrane Collaboration is an international non-profit and independent organisation, dedicated to making up-to-date, accurate information about the effects of healthcare readily available worldwide. It produces and disseminates systematic reviews (including the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews) of healthcare interventions and promotes the search for evidence in the form of clinical trials and other studies of interventions.
The Foundation provides information, advice and expertise – on living and working conditions, industrial relations and managing change in Europe – for key actors in the field of EU social policy on the basis of comparative information, research and analysis.

Health Research Board
The Health Research Board's mission is to improve health through research and information.  The Disability Databases Division in the Health Research Board manages two national service-planning databases for people with disabilities on behalf of the Department of Health and Children: National Intellectual Disability Database (NIDD), established in 1995 and the National Physical and Sensory Disability Database (NPSDD), established in 2002. 

Norah Fry Research Centre

The Norah Fry Research Centre is one of the leading centres in the UK for research into services for people with learning difficulties.

NUIG Disability Law and Policy Research Unit
The main aim of the Centre is to provide a forum and focus for disability related legal and policy research in Ireland.

Tizard Centre

The Tizard Centre, University of Kent, is one of the leading UK academic groups working in learning disability and community care.  The Tizard Centre is committed to consultancy, research and teaching that acknowledge diversity and address issues arising from social inequality. 

National Institute for Intellectual Disability - Trinity College (NIID)
The National Institute for Intellectual Disability is based at Trinity College and seeks to promote the inclusion of people with intellectual disability and their families.  Formally established in 1998 and previously know as The National Institute for the Study of Learning Difficulties (NISLD), the NIID works to ensure that the basic human rights of people with intellectual disability are upheld.  The institute offers a certificate in contemporary living, which is Ireland's first full-time university course for people with learning disabilities.  The three key areas of the Institute's work are:
  • Influencing Policy in all aspects of the lives of people with learning difficulties
  • Developing education programmes focused on the lifelong learning needs of people with learning difficulties
  • Undertaking high quality, multi-disciplinary research and creating a network of researchers

Public and private funding for the institute has been received from the Department of Education and Science, the Higher Education Authority, Special Olympics Ireland, the Atlantic Philanthropies and the Ireland Funds.

UCD Centre for Disability Studies
The Centre aims to promote the inclusion and independence of people with disabilities through excellent research, teaching and service to the wider community.

University of Ulster Developmental Disabilities and Child Health Research Group
This group, within the School of Nursing of the Faculty of Life and Health Sciences, brings together researchers from a number of disciplines: nursing, psychology, social work and occupational therapy.

Welsh Centre for Learning Disabilities
The Welsh Centre for Learning Disabilities is a multi-disciplinary academic section of the Department of Psychological Medicine at Cardiff University. First established in 1975, it brings together a range of expertise in clinical practice, research, teaching and service development associated with many aspects of the lives of people with learning disabilities.  The work of the Centre is underpinned by a values base which recognises everybody’s rights to life, self-determination and equality of opportunity to be healthy, develop and be fulfilled. It seeks to promote the welfare of people with learning disabilities and their families.
