Western Care Association is a Mayo organisation, formed in 1966 by a group of caring and far-sighted people who were prepared to give their knowledge and time on a voluntary basis to provide a better life for people with a learning disability.
By having a voluntary structure of branches throughout Mayo, it creates a climate of awareness and inclusion in local communities.
It also facilitates opportunities for service users in the area of integration, job opportunities and leisure activities.
The voluntary sector also lobbies and advocates for rights and resources for people with a learning disability.
It provides substantial revenue and resources through fundraising. It also generates a voluntary work force to complement staff and provide a better quality of life for our service users.
The Voluntary Sector has also helped the Association to achieve International Accreditation under the Personal Outcomes Quality Measurement System.
